Raleigh-Durham International Airport is situated in the middle of two cities Raleigh and Durham. It is commonly known by its IATA code RDU. It is 9 miles to the northeast of the town of Morrisville. The airport encompasses 4,929 acres. It has three runways and provides nonstop service to 35 domestic and international destinations on more than 400 daily flights.

Approximately 10 million passengers travel through Raleigh – Durham Airport each year. The RDU Airport Authority is fully equipped to handle such huge passenger volumes and looks after the airport operations and its facilities. The Airport Authority comprises of board members from Durham and Wake counties and Raleigh and Durham cities.
There are two cargo areas in the airport namely North and South Cargo. Cargo airlines use the North Cargo terminal and commercial airlines use the South Cargo terminal. There are two passenger terminals in the airport. The older one is terminal one and the newer one is terminal two however they are not connected through an airside connection. Passengers can move between terminals by taking a shuttle bus or the moving walkway.
Triangle transit offers public transportation to and from Raleigh Durham Airport. It offers fixed route, scheduled and commuter bus services from the airport to the cities of Raleigh, Durham and the town of Chapel hill. Intercity rail and Amtrak services are also available via TTA. More and more carriers are providing services to RDU, latest addition being Southwest Airlines as there’s a steady passenger growth observed consistently over the past couple of years.
